A mere half-degree shift can result in noteworthy consequences, and it's not limited to climate alone. Recent studies indicate that children undergoing chemotherapy can forego hospital admission until their fever reaches 39 degrees Celsius, contrary to the previously set threshold of 38.5 degrees Celsius. This adjustment alleviates the challenges faced by young patients and brings relief to their parents and siblings.
In another study, it was demonstrated that certain high-risk surgeries once considered essential for treating appendiceal tumors are, in fact, unnecessary and should be avoided.
While such treatment optimization may not always make the headlines, they are as crucial as breakthrough medicines. In our latest report, titled “Cancer Research in Switzerland”, we highlight some of these projects and outline our criteria for awarding funds. The report (available in German and French) is a powerful reminder of the importance of cancer research in optimizing treatment processes, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for both patients and their families.
Nevertheless, it is crucial to emphasize that these research projects cannot generate commercial profits and rely solely on the generosity of donors. Therefore, we want to extend our sincere thanks to you. It is through your support and the generosity of numerous dedicated donors that we can actively contribute to significant and meaningful advancements in the battle against cancer.
With sincere appreciation,
Your Swiss Cancer Research foundation
