Computer classes at Koung Jor Refugee Camp

Dear friend,

I hope this message finds you well.

We are very excited to give you a few project updates. This quarter we are partnering with an organisation that we have known and worked with for a long time to support the running costs of a school in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp across the border in Burma / Myanmar. This camp is close to Koung Jor Refugee Camp and we have previously supported this community with food aid including rice and cooking oil.  We are super excited that together, with your help, we can support the local camp school.

We are still funding the English and Computer classes in Koung Jor Refugee Camp. In the photos, you can also see that the students are enjoying using the new Smart English workbooks! Thank you for making this possible.

Many of the adults in the community have limited opportunities and find it hard to make a living.

"Some people go to the forest nearby to find firewood, bamboo shoots, insects and mushrooms to make money. Some people work as chilli pickers on the field nearby. Some people go to work in construction as a construction worker.

From the forest, they can make money about 150-200 baht ($7-10 NZD). From picking chilis and construction they can make money about 250-300 baht. All of the money they can make from these areas is just enough to cover their daily expenses. If it is possible we would like you to continue support education at Kount Jor Refugee Camp."

As many of you know we have been working with Koung Jor since 2007 and consider many of the community members as close friends. We are truly grateful for your ongoing support.

With gratitude,

The Branch Foundation Team
