Expanding Community Handwashing Culture
At the DRC -Uganda border,Handwashing remains one of the most effective and accessible defenses against Ebola. Because of your support, efforts are underway to transform hand hygiene from an emergency response measure into a sustained community habit across Uganda–DRC border regions.
Handwashing stations have been installed in strategic locations such as markets, schools, transport hubs, and community centers. Beyond infrastructure, awareness campaigns are reinforcing proper handwashing techniques and encouraging consistent daily practice.
As a result, communities are not only using these facilities but are also adopting hygiene as part of their routine behavior. Children are reminding parents, vendors are encouraging customers, and households are prioritizing hygiene practices.
This cultural shift is critical. When handwashing becomes normalized, it significantly reduces the risk of Ebola transmission and other infectious diseases.
Your support is helping move communities beyond short-term response into long-term prevention. By embedding hygiene into everyday life, you are contributing to lasting improvements in public health and resilience.
