Engaging Traditional Healers in Ebola Prevention Across Uganda and DRC
Traditional healers are trusted figures in many communities across Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, often serving as the first point of contact for individuals seeking care. Because of your support, these influential community members are being engaged as partners in Ebola prevention.
Through targeted outreach, traditional healers are receiving accurate information about Ebola symptoms, transmission, and referral processes. They are being encouraged to guide patients toward formal healthcare services when symptoms are consistent with Ebola.
As a result, delays in seeking appropriate care are being reduced. Instead of inadvertently increasing risk, traditional healers are becoming allies in early detection and prevention.
This collaboration is also helping bridge the gap between cultural practices and modern healthcare systems, fostering trust and cooperation within communities.
By respecting and involving traditional structures, the response becomes more inclusive and effective.
Your support is transforming potential barriers into powerful partnerships—ensuring that trusted community figures play a positive role in protecting public health.
This approach is essential in strengthening early response systems and improving overall outbreak management.
