Strengthening Cross-Border Ambulance Referral Systems

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Strengthening Cross-Border Ambulance Referral Systems

Timely and safe transport of suspected Ebola patients is critical in preventing further transmission and ensuring access to care. In border regions between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, movement across health systems can be complex and delayed without proper coordination. Because of your support, cross-border ambulance referral systems are being strengthened to improve response efficiency.

Efforts are focused on enhancing coordination between health facilities on both sides of the border, ensuring that suspected cases can be safely transferred to designated treatment units when needed. Clear communication channels and referral protocols are being reinforced to reduce delays and confusion.

As a result, patients are reaching appropriate care more quickly, reducing the risk of community transmission. Health workers are also better supported, as they can rely on structured systems to manage cross-border cases safely.

These improvements are particularly important in remote border areas where access to specialized care may require movement across national boundaries.

Your support is helping ensure that life-saving care is not limited by geography. By strengthening ambulance referral systems, you are improving response speed, protecting communities, and enhancing coordination between Uganda and DRC.
