Upgrading Sanitation Infrastructure in Border Markets
Border markets are vital economic hubs, connecting communities across Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, their high traffic and close interactions can increase the risk of Ebola transmission. Because of your support, sanitation infrastructure in these markets is being upgraded to create safer trading environments.
Handwashing stations are being installed at key entry and exit points, along with strategic locations within the markets. Vendors and customers are being encouraged to use these facilities regularly, supported by awareness messaging on hygiene and disease prevention.
As a result, hygiene practices are becoming more consistent in market settings. Traders are taking greater responsibility for maintaining cleanliness around their stalls, and customers are more mindful of personal hygiene during transactions.
These improvements are transforming markets from high-risk areas into active prevention zones, where daily economic activities can continue more safely.
Your support is helping protect both public health and livelihoods—ensuring that communities can sustain their income while reducing exposure to Ebola.
This intervention plays a critical role in minimizing transmission risks in one of the busiest and most essential community spaces.
