Strengthening Community Water Point Management Systems
Water points are essential gathering places in many border communities across Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, without proper management, these shared spaces can increase the risk of Ebola transmission due to frequent contact. Because of your support, community water point management systems are being strengthened to promote safer hygiene practices.
Local committees are being engaged to oversee water point use, ensuring cleanliness and encouraging handwashing before and after collecting water. Community members are also receiving guidance on avoiding overcrowding and maintaining safe practices while accessing water.
As a result, water points are becoming safer and more organized, reducing the likelihood of contamination and transmission. Communities are taking ownership of these shared resources, reinforcing collective responsibility for health.
Improved water management also supports broader hygiene efforts, as safe water access is essential for handwashing and household sanitation.
Your support is helping transform everyday community spaces into safer environments.
By strengthening water point management, you are addressing a critical intersection of access, hygiene, and prevention—ensuring that essential resources contribute to health rather than risk.
