Strengthening Hygiene Practices at Fishing Landing Sites
Fishing landing sites along border lakes in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are high-activity zones where people gather for trade, transport, and daily work. These sites can present significant risks for Ebola transmission due to close interactions and shared facilities. Because of your support, hygiene practices at these landing sites are being strengthened.
Awareness efforts are targeting fishermen, traders, and transporters, emphasizing handwashing, symptom recognition, and safe interaction practices. Handwashing facilities are being introduced at key points, encouraging consistent use throughout the day.
As a result, hygiene practices are improving, and individuals are becoming more aware of their role in preventing disease spread. Communities at landing sites are taking greater responsibility for maintaining clean and safe environments.
This intervention is particularly important due to the high mobility of these populations, which can contribute to cross-border transmission if not addressed.
Your support is helping protect vital economic hubs while reducing health risks.
By strengthening hygiene at landing sites, you are safeguarding both livelihoods and public health in these critical border areas.
