Strengthening Hygiene Practices in Community Water Collection and Storage
Safe water handling is a critical part of Ebola prevention, especially in border communities where water is collected and shared daily. Because of your support, efforts are being strengthened to improve hygiene practices around water collection, storage, and usage across Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Community members are being educated on the importance of using clean containers, avoiding contamination during collection, and ensuring proper storage of water at household level. Special attention is being given to commonly used containers such as jerrycans, which are frequently shared and handled by multiple individuals.
As a result, households are becoming more aware of how easily contamination can occur and are adopting safer practices. Families are taking steps to keep water containers covered and clean, and are practicing better hygiene when collecting and using water.
This intervention also reinforces handwashing behavior, as clean water access is essential for effective hygiene practices.
Your support is helping ensure that one of the most basic daily needs—water—is managed in a way that reduces health risks.
By strengthening water hygiene practices, you are contributing to safer households and stronger community-level Ebola prevention.
