Community Volunteers Unite Across Uganda and DRC to Expand Ebola Prevention
Dear Donor,
Communities living along the Uganda–DRC border share more than geography—they share families, markets, schools, and livelihoods. As both countries continue strengthening their Ebola response, community volunteers remain at the heart of efforts to protect lives on both sides of the border. Your generous support is empowering these dedicated volunteers to expand awareness, surveillance, and community engagement activities where they are needed most.
Village Health Teams in Uganda and community health workers in neighboring areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo continue conducting household visits, organizing village dialogue meetings, and encouraging early reporting of suspected illnesses. Working closely with local chiefs, religious leaders, teachers, and youth groups, they are helping communities understand the importance of hand hygiene, infection prevention, and cooperation with health authorities.
These grassroots interventions are reducing misinformation while strengthening confidence in public health guidance. Community members are increasingly participating in surveillance activities, supporting vulnerable households, and sharing accurate information with neighbors and relatives who frequently travel across the border.
The collaboration between volunteers from neighboring communities is fostering mutual learning and shared commitment to protecting public health. Their dedication demonstrates that effective Ebola prevention begins with trusted local leadership and active community participation.
Your continued partnership is strengthening this remarkable network of community volunteers. Together, we are helping communities in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo stand united against Ebola while building stronger local health systems that will continue protecting lives long after the current outbreak has ended.
