Coordinated Preparedness Builds a Stronger Regional Response to Ebola
Dear Friend,
Preparedness remains one of the most effective investments in controlling Ebola outbreaks. As Uganda responds to 20 confirmed cases and neighboring areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo maintain heightened vigilance, coordinated preparedness activities are strengthening the ability of both countries to respond rapidly and effectively. Thanks to your generous support, these collaborative efforts are creating stronger regional resilience.
District health authorities, community organizations, border officials, healthcare workers, and local leaders continue participating in joint planning meetings that review response strategies, identify emerging risks, and strengthen coordination across border districts. Preparedness activities include community education, surveillance strengthening, infection prevention initiatives, and improved communication between neighboring health teams.
Schools, markets, transport hubs, and places of worship remain active partners in promoting prevention messages that are consistent across the border. This coordinated communication helps travelers, traders, and border residents receive the same practical guidance regardless of which side of the border they are on.
Communities are benefiting from faster information sharing, stronger referral systems, and greater confidence in public health interventions. The partnerships being strengthened today will continue serving both countries during future disease outbreaks, creating a lasting legacy of cooperation and preparedness.
Your generosity is helping transform emergency response into sustainable regional collaboration. Together, we are strengthening health security for Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo by investing in partnerships, preparedness, and community resilience that protect thousands of families across East Africa's shared border communities.
