Dear Donor,
Transport corridors connecting Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are essential for trade, healthcare access, and family connections. During the Ebola outbreak, these routes also require strengthened public health measures to reduce the risk of disease transmission while allowing essential movement to continue safely. Thanks to your generous support, Development Alert is working with transport operators and community leaders to promote safer travel throughout border communities.
Boda boda riders, taxi operators, truck drivers, and transport associations are participating in regular health education sessions that emphasize Ebola symptom recognition, hand hygiene, and the importance of reporting suspected illness immediately. Public handwashing facilities positioned at transport stages and busy roadside trading centers continue providing accessible opportunities for travelers to practice good hygiene before continuing their journeys.
Community volunteers are distributing educational materials and engaging travelers in short awareness conversations that reinforce key prevention messages. These interactions are helping replace fear with practical knowledge while encouraging responsible behavior throughout transport networks.
Local transport leaders have embraced the initiative by encouraging their members to support public health guidance and cooperate fully with health authorities whenever necessary. Their leadership is helping strengthen confidence within communities while protecting one of the region's most important economic lifelines.
Your generosity is helping create safer transport corridors that protect travelers, transport workers, and border communities alike. Together, we are supporting both public health and regional connectivity while strengthening the collective response to Ebola.
