In Enugu State, many girls drop out of school due to poverty, unpaid fees, and lack of basic care. UNICEF reports that 1 in 3 Nigerian girls may not finish secondary school. This project will support 1,500 girls with school fees, learning materials, basic care items, and mentoring to keep them in school at a time when rising costs are forcing families to choose survival over education.
In Enugu State, many girls from low income families are missing school or dropping out due to unpaid fees, hunger, lack of uniforms, and poor access to basic care. National data shows millions of Nigerian girls are out of school, with poverty being the main cause. Families facing rising food and transport costs often withdraw girls first, exposing them to child labor, early marriage, and lifelong poverty.
This project will support 1,500 girls by paying school fees, providing uniforms, books, and basic care items, and linking them to mentoring support. Working with local schools and caregivers, we will identify girls at risk of dropping out and support them directly. Regular follow up will help keep girls in class, reduce absenteeism, and support their learning throughout the school year.
Girls who stay in school are more likely to complete secondary education, earn stable income, and support their families in the future. This project will help reduce school dropout rates in Enugu and break cycles of poverty. Educated girls are less likely to face early marriage and more likely to raise healthy children, creating lasting social and economic benefits for their communities.
