Menstrual Hygiene Management Support in Mandera County

By Dr. Abdullahi Hersi | Executive Director

Nomadic Assistance for Peace and Development (NAPAD) launched this fundraising campaign to address the pressing issue of period poverty among adolescent girls in Mandera County, Kenya. The campaign aims to provide dignity kits, which include reusable sanitary pads, soap, and other essential hygiene products, to 3,000 vulnerable school-going girls as well as empower them on menstrual health management.

These kits are essential to ensuring that girls can manage their menstruation with dignity, attend school consistently, and focus on their education without interruption. Additionally, the kits will not only improve menstrual hygiene and health outcomes but also increase school attendance and retention rates for the girls. The reusable sanitary pads will provide an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution, reducing menstrual product waste and eliminating the need for frequent purchases.

As of April 2025, the campaign has raised $23. While this is a modest amount, it marks a progressive step toward the overall goal of raising $56,000. The remaining $55,977 will enable us to fully support 3,000 girls with dignity kits for one academic year.

Without access to basic menstrual hygiene products, girls are forced to miss up to four days of school every month during their menstrual cycle. This repeated absenteeism often leads to poor academic performance, school dropout, early marriage, and early pregnancy, forcing girls into a cycle of poverty and limited opportunity.

While we are encouraged by the initial support, much more needs to be done. Your contribution can make a life-changing difference by allowing a girl to stay in school and pursue her dreams. We invite you to be part of this transformative journey and donate today to end period poverty for 3,000 girls in Mandera County.
