Dear Friends and compas,
We are reaching out to you to ask that you join our call to free José Díaz Gómez, a Zapaitsta base de apoyo, proud rural farmer from the indigenous Cho´l community (GAL) Ranchería “El Trapiche”. José has been detained for eleven months in the El Bambú State Social Reintegration Center in Catazajá, Chiapas, Mexico and his case needs our immediate attention. When detained, José has been tortured, his location unknown and falsified for hours, and he was forced to sign paperes.
Regrettably, José's right to fair treatment and due process has been violated. He stands accused of violent robbery, a charge also extended to four other BAEZLN supporters. This situation not only threatens their individual dignity and freedom but seems to be part of a larger strategy to intimidate and harass the Zapatista autonomy.
We believe in the power of collective action. We've seen it change the course of history. Let's use that power now to stand up for José. We are calling on the State Judicial Power of Chiapas to revisit the case, uphold justice and drop the penal action unjustly pursued against José.
So, how can you help? By lending your voice! Let's make a human chain of solidarity and demand José Díaz Gómez's immediate release from the General Prosecutor's Office and the State Judicial Power. Whether you're an individual, part of a collective, or representing a national or international organization, your support will make all the difference.
On Thursday at 10AM central mexico time, we will livestream a press conference in our FB page, tune in to learn more!
Together, we can make sure that justice is served. Let's stand up for José!
