Fellows tranforming communities

By Sherry DeLeon | Executive Director

We are thrilled to share the incredible impact that the Tarr Fellowship program is having across multiple communities, thanks to your generous support. This year, we welcomed eight new Tarr Fellows from Cameroon, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, and Rwanda. These dedicated individuals have already begun making a significant difference in the lives of those they serve.

Empowering Communities with Critical Training

Our 2024 Tarr Fellows have hit the ground running, applying their expertise and training to empower community members in critical areas:

  • Domestic Violence Awareness: In Cameroon, our Fellow is leading workshops to educate women and men about the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of creating safe, supportive environments. This training is helping to break the cycle of violence and foster a culture of respect and equality.

  • Food Preservation: In India and Indonesia, our Fellows are teaching innovative food forest, food preservation, and mushroom cultivation techniques. These practices are vital for communities that face seasonal food shortages. By extending the shelf life of their produce, families are better equipped to weather difficult times.

  • Poultry Management and Increased Livelihoods: In Papua New Guinea and Rwanda, our Fellows are providing training in poultry management, including the care and breeding of chickens. These skills are crucial in regions where poultry farming can significantly boost household incomes and improve food security. By equipping farmers with the knowledge to manage their flocks more effectively, we are helping to create sustainable livelihoods.

  • Sustainable Agriculture: In Vietnam, our Fellow is working with farmers to implement sustainable agriculture techniques. By focusing on organic farming and water conservation, these communities are learning to produce food in a way that is both environmentally friendly and economically viable.

Your Support Makes This Possible

The success of the Tarr Fellowship program is a testament to the power of your generosity. Because of your donations, our Fellows are equipped to bring meaningful change to their communities, fostering resilience and hope for a better future.

Your support enables us to continue selecting and training new Tarr Fellows, ensuring that this impactful work continues to reach more communities in need. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and commitment to this cause.

Thank You

Thank you for being an integral part of the American Friends of Asian Rural Institute's mission. Together, we are making a lasting difference in the lives of people across the globe. We look forward to keeping you updated on the ongoing success of our 2024 Tarr Fellows and the remarkable stories of change they are creating.

With heartfelt appreciation,
