At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we believe that empowering youth with technology and vocational skills is the key to building resilient and self-sufficient communities.
The project “Transform S/East Nigeria Youth with Tech & Vocational Skills” aims to provide young people in Southeastern Nigeria with hands-on training, mentorship, and practical skills to thrive in today’s digital and entrepreneurial economy.
Through the Samony Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-HUB), participants gain access to a state-of-the-art learning environment, where they can acquire skills in:
• Digital literacy and technology-based solutions
• Food production, processing, and fortification
• Entrepreneurship and small business management
• Innovation and problem-solving
By equipping youth with these essential skills, we aim to reduce unemployment, enhance economic opportunities, and nurture the next generation of innovators and leaders.
Project Activities During This Period
During this reporting period, the project team focused on planning, curriculum development, and community engagement, ensuring that all preparations are in place for when funding becomes available.
Key activities include:
• Designing a comprehensive tech and vocational training curriculum
• Identifying and mapping target youth participants across Southeastern Nigeria
• Preparing the FIT-HUB facilities, equipment, and learning materials
• Engaging mentors and trainers to ensure high-quality instruction
• Liaising with community leaders and local partners for maximum participation
At this stage, no donations have yet been received specifically for this project, but the groundwork laid during this period positions the project for rapid and impactful implementation once funding is secured.
Challenges
Some challenges faced include:
• Limited access to funding for equipment, materials, and resources
• Logistics and coordination for participants from rural areas
• Recruiting trainers and mentors with both technical and vocational expertise
Despite these challenges, the team remains dedicated to transforming youth lives through skill acquisition, mentorship, and empowerment.
Little by Little Fundraising Campaign Update
We are thrilled to announce that the Little by Little fundraising campaign has begun, and today marks the second day of this special initiative.
Donations during this campaign will directly enable us to:
• Launch hands-on vocational and tech training at FIT-HUB
• Equip youth with tools, materials, and digital devices for practical learning
• Provide mentorship and guidance to nurture entrepreneurial mindsets
• Monitor and support participants in applying their skills in real-world projects
Even small contributions can have a profound impact, helping youth acquire the skills they need to shape their futures and uplift their communities.
Next Steps
Once funding is received, the project will:
• Commence hands-on training programs in tech and vocational skills
• Distribute starter kits, materials, and learning tools to youth participants
• Conduct mentorship sessions to reinforce practical skills
• Foster entrepreneurship and innovation projects for real-world impact
• Track participant progress and provide ongoing guidance for sustainable livelihoods
These steps ensure that youth not only learn skills but are also empowered to create opportunities and transform their communities.
