We launched the project to support families of cancer patients on GlobalGiving in August. Supporting cancer patients and their families is the core mission of our organization, as there is no other organization in the Czech Republic that provides this support.
In the first three months, more than 70 cancer patients or their loved ones have contacted us. Considering the relatively short time that has passed since the beginning of the project, we consider this a great success. Approximately 2/3 of the clients have contacted us for one-off advice or rapid intervention and are therefore not included in the project. However, 22 clients and their families need long-term support, a multidisciplinary approach involving a psychologist, social worker, nutritional therapist and other professionals in our Centres.
Also, the volunteer programme in the oncology wards has welcomed a number of new recruits who have undergone two days of training and are involved in the care of the patients.
We thank all donors for their support, and we especially thank the donor who chose to support our efforts with $5,000. This financial support ensures the sustainability of services for months to come. As the project continues, the coming Christmas holidays are one of the difficult times of the year for lonely people, and we are not relenting in our efforts to provide psychosocial support to everyone who contacts Amelie.
