My name is Shin. I was born in Shuangya Mountain, a small remote coal town in Heilongjiang Province. My parents made a living from farming and their income was meager. Because my elder brother and sister were going to school at the same time, the expenses were huge and the family was in financial difficulties. When I was a freshman in middle school, with the help of my scholarship nominator, Mr. Z, (whom I called grandpa Z.) I applied for the SOAR Scholarship, which relieved the financial burden for my family. Because of SOAR’s mentorship, I was also able to let go of the psychological burden and devoted all my energy to my studies. In 2004, I was successfully enrolled in the best high school in my hometown. Then in 2007, I was admitted to Tianjin University of Commerce. Four years later, I earned two bachelor's degrees: bachelor in management and bachelor in law.
During the period of SOAR’s sponsorship, I was very fortunate to meet Mr. F., whom I called grandpa F., a mentor of SOAR FOUNDATION in the United States. Grandpa F. cared about my study and growth, and gave me a lot of valuable advice from his life experience. We exchanged letters, emails and phone calls during those years, and we formed a deep friendship. Under the influence of Grandpa F., my vision continued to broaden and I established a positive outlook on life and values.
After graduation, I joined Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences to engage in human resources work, mainly responsible for the administrative affairs of talent acquisition and training. Although busy with work, I obtained the Human Resources Professional (HRP) and completed the part time MPA program in Nankai University. I keep myself in a state of constant growth.
I am very grateful to SOAR FOUNDATION’s volunteers and donors. Together they have cultivated me to be a caring and enterprising person, so that I can always keep working hard and being kind in my studies, career and life, and constantly become a better version of myself.
Although winter is always cold, with SOAR, I always feel warm. Thank you SOAR!
