Looking back over the last year, one of the accomplishments we are most proud of during 2019 was developing our new Internship Programme. We welcomed our first new interns in June of last year, and we have had a steady stream of new interns across our offices in Peru and Cambodia since!
We designed the programme to benefit students on gap years or professionals taking career breaks, allowing them to give back while gaining valuable work experience and life skills in some amazing, international destinations. The internship durations last between 1 and 7 months, depending on our needs and the needs of the incoming intern. We offer placements in areas such as: Digital Marketing, NGO Assistantships, Media Creation, Blog Writing, Volunteer Coordination, and Gift Giving Strategy. Working alongside our diverse and dedicated team, our interns have been able to gain experience in international development and expand their professional skill sets.
Our internships offer an alternative, more meaningful way to spend time abroad in South America or South East Asia, gaining valuable experience with a forward-looking British Charity whose work has proven benefits at local levels. Working in either our Peru or Cambodia offices, interns spending time living and working abroad, immersed within a new culture, and often given the opportunity to learn a new language. They are given the opportunity to participate in some exciting grassroots programmes and to be part of diverse cultures and locations, steeped in history.
All of our interns are given the option to live in one of our two Intern Houses, either in Cusco, Peru or Siem, Reap Cambodia – for free! This has proven to be one of the most popular aspects of the programme, as the household is an excellent space for collaboration and socialization with like-minded people, all working for a great cause.
We could not have anticipated the popularity of our internship programme, and we could not be more pleased. The insights, new ideas, and quality of work that our interns have brought to the table so far is incredible. Having these new perspectives as part of our Globalteer team has benefited all of our projects, and professional experience our interns gain will be invaluable for their future or continuing careers. We absolutely cannot wait to welcome our new intern teammates for 2020, gaining more advocates for the non-profit sector and spreading the word about our work!
