Helping Hands School in Cambodia
Our dedicated staff have gone above and beyond to consistently deliver high-quality education and social care services to the community. In recent years, many older students have faced challenges continuing at Helping Hands due to increased support needs and commitments. However, it is encouraging to see a new group of younger students joining, maintaining our student body just above 300.
We have 15 class groups, allowing our teachers to provide personalized attention to each student. While this can make scheduling complex, our Head Teacher expertly manages it. We look forward to improving our classroom and kitchen facilities to accommodate our growing needs, as we are currently operating at full capacity.
The dry season is always a challenging time for Cambodian farmers, with increasingly hot and dry conditions. Fortunately, we had the help of a volunteer who assisted us for six weeks. Our garden continues to thrive with vegetables, potatoes, and pumpkins, thanks to the diligent watering efforts of students and staff. Everyone is eager to plant more crops once the rains return.
PAWS Dog Welfare Project in Peru
PAWS remains committed to providing quality and safe healthcare to roaming animals in Cusco and surrounding villages. We ensure all surgeries are performed in sterile conditions, prioritizing the animals' well-being during the healing process. Our health and education campaigns continue in rural communities, collaborating with 16 villages and 3 shelters.
Our Mobile Veterinary Clinic visited 16 rural villages last quarter, traveling through challenging Andean mountain terrain. For many of these remote communities, our clinic is the only source of veterinary care. We aim to visit villages every three months to provide deworming, vitamins, and vaccinations. Additionally, we assist pet owners with sick or injured animals, offering medications or wound care as needed.
Picaflor House Project in Peru
Picaflor House has been bustling with activity this quarter. Thanks to your donations, we celebrated several holidays and offered extracurricular activities during the school break. We welcomed new staff and interns, enabling us to expand our programs and continue empowering the children and teens of Oropesa.
We focus on creating a safe and fun environment that promotes mental well-being and encourages creativity, especially during holiday breaks.
Child Protection and Women Empowerment
Our NGO Assistant, facilitated our Child Protection Model and developed a Women's Empowerment course for teens in Oropesa. This course focuses on self-esteem, honoring important women role models, and preventing relationship violence and harmful stereotypes. We are dedicated to teaching children and teens about their rights to physical, emotional, and psychological security.
Rural Sports in Cambodia
This year, we organized a large Sport Festival Event with teams from all our outreach schools, drawing around 1,000 attendees. Everyone enjoyed a traditional Khmer noodle breakfast and plenty of water. Despite the heat, the students gave their all in the games.
Our staff worked tirelessly to ensure the event's success. During the closing ceremony, we distributed 73 sets of sportswear to the participants, receiving enthusiastic applause. Teachers praised the students' determination and positive attitudes, expressing gratitude to Globalteer and Helping Hands School for hosting the event.
The Goals for Girls initiative educates high school girls about leadership through sports. In Cambodia, girls often face exclusion from sports as they grow older. Goals for Girls empowers them to reclaim the sports field and explore various roles in society. Visitors often notice our girls' confidence and eagerness to participate in sports, a rarity in rural Cambodia. Female coaches play a crucial role, providing guidance and serving as role models. These sessions focus on leadership, helping girls to identify and aspire to leadership roles now and in the future.
