Earth Day Greetings from Green Map

By Wendy Brawer | Director

Our home from Artemis II, together with our icons
Our home from Artemis II, together with our icons

It’s nearly Earth Day and there are events in every community that will put you in touch with environmental and natural sensibilities. It’s the season for a much needed reboot, this year underscored by the geo political situation and a raft of new uncertainties. Roots and shoots are transforming, we too are shifting. It’s sometimes hard to see progress being made from the sidelines - we know getting involved is a step towards a better future.

Usually Green Map has Earth Day seasonal events, but this year, we are taking a break while our Director’s new knee settles in. She’s giving the reflection at the Highlands Choral Society in Cold Spring NY on May 3rd, in line with the current Lower East Side mapping project theme of Energy. We’ll be back with events related to that theme and more ways to interface with our team as summer nears with participation at American Museum of Natural History’s Chancellor Day for educators and the Youth Climate Summit in June on Governors Island.

Our non-profit has been around for disasters of many kinds over the last 30 years. Our toolkit matched with your own local mapping process can be an antidote as getting involved locally is one sure way to lift one into action. Our latest news post is on Crisis Mapping, a topic that keeps popping up lately.

Nature offers a respite from stressful times. We are inspired by Artemis II's perspective of home. We hope the blossoms and birdsong are a balm as well as an activator for you as it really is time for all hands on deck!

It's time to breathe in and dig in! Happy Earth Day!
