Project Update

Support laboratory Analyses in Burkina Faso

Background

Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in Africa, ranks 182 out of 189 countries in the human development index. Additionally, it ranks below average compared to countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Action10 is now aiming to raise funds to provide lab equipment to the laboratories in Burkina Faso that currently experience a lack of resources. This will enable the laboratory to bring the research, on water quality among other things, forward and improve the standard of living.

Project updates

Recall that in 2023, Burkina Faso experienced significant political instability that limited initiative and business at all levels. Despite this, monthly virtual meetings are held with partners in Burkina Faso and other HR&S Branches on regular basis. During the March 2024 Action Talk online meeting, the food testing laboratory business plan was introduced by Ugandan partner. Based on the business description, there were found strong similarities with Burkina Faso laboratory programme. From this specific meeting to the parallels with Senexel's laboratory analyses program in Burkina Faso, we have all benefited. The HR&S branches in Burkina Faso and Uganda exchanged knowledge and experiences with each other. Moreover, mentioned projects can empower the HR&S Network for Technician which HR&S is highly supporting. The Senexel laboratory's employee, Mr. Karim Yankine, presented an explanation of the lab's focus, which includes environmental analyses of soil and water. At the same time, he explained that the fragile security conditions in Burkina Faso and the risk that comes with sample collection from the gold mining region make the current situation extremely difficult. The conclusion of the meeting was that HR&S would, if feasible, support the project.

Thank you!
