Red Sea State in northern Sudan is facing a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis due to ongoing displacement, the loss of livelihoods, and the sharp rise in food prices. Thousands of families—including children, orphans, widows, and elderly people—are struggling every day to secure even their most basic food needs, placing their health, dignity, and survival at serious risk.
Food insecurity is no longer a temporary challenge; it has become a severe humanitarian emergency requiring immediate and sustained action. Many households now rely entirely on humanitarian assistance for their daily meals, while others are forced to reduce the number of meals they eat or survive on nutritionally inadequate food. This has significantly increased the risk of malnutrition, particularly among children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
Furthermore, the continuous increase in food prices, combined with limited employment opportunities and declining household incomes, has made access to adequate food increasingly difficult for both displaced families and vulnerable host communities. As these conditions persist, the humanitarian consequences continue to grow, making food assistance one of the highest priorities for protecting lives.
Supporting the food security sector is one of the most urgent humanitarian interventions needed in Red Sea State. Food assistance helps reduce hunger, improve public health, and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable families by providing essential food baskets, hot meals, and other forms of nutritional support to those most in need.
There is an urgent need for donors and humanitarian partners to expand food assistance efforts and ensure the continuity of life-saving support. Every contribution can help save lives, ease suffering, and restore hope to families struggling to survive during this ongoing humanitarian crisis.
