Exciting Updates from Kabul

By Freshta Karim | Founder

Dear Friends of Charmaghz,

I am excited to share that we have added a new Library Van to our fleet of Mobile Libraries! The Van was just launched in the past week and is in an area of Kabul that we have not previously served. This brings our total number of Mobile Libraries to 31! Other amazing news is that we have facilitated over 900,000 visits from children since 2018 which means this year we should achieve 1 million visits. This is only possible due to your support! We could not accomplish this without you.

Currently in Afghanistan schools are resuming after the winter break. We know many children, especially girls, will not be attending school. Those who do attend often will not gain the academic support they need or be in an environment that fosters imagination and critical thinking skills. The launch of the new Library Van allows us to continue to serve children who are in desperate need of educational support.

While we celebrate our achievements we are still aware that there are even more children in Kabul who need access to books and a supportive learning environment. As we continue our work we especially witness the need to support girls, who are more likely to be kept from enrolling in any type of formal education even at the primary level. Chamaghz's Libraries make a positive difference in the lives of the girls who visit us. I would like to share one story from one of our young visitors, Amira*, who shared with us her experience.

"In this Library, I am having a happy time because I always play, read and draw. Today, my friends and I read the book The Selfish Fish. I learned many good things from this story. For example, we should not be selfish and we should not be self-absorbed. Also, we should talk to our friends correctly and avoid teasing."

Our Libraries provide a safe and joyful environment for children like Amira to express themselves and learn. Thank you for helping us make this difference!

Warm Regards,

Freshta Karim
