The Loire delegation develops its actions in 4 territories, thanks to the support of 27 local teams and over 530 volunteers. Every day, it works to create social links, strengthen the dynamics of solidarity and find solutions to the difficulties expressed in the various places where people meet and help each other.
Saint-Etienne-Ondaine has a higher level of precariousness than the rest of the region. Therefore, 6 teams are mobilized to meet the needs of the population they serve. Among them, the Rue de la Paix team is in charge of facilitating friendly groups, French language learning activities and access to rights for foreigners.
The project to revitalize the Rue de la Paix welcome facility is part of an ambitious initiative to offer a better welcome to Secours Catholique beneficiaries.
The inauguration of the new premises took place on December 3, 2024 and was attended by 67 people, including Saint-Etienne mayor Gaël Perdriau, delegated departmental councillor Fabienne Perrin and Nicole Peycelon and Dino Cinieri, regional councillors.
On this occasion, the volunteers, who were honored, were able to conduct a retrospective of the day care center, underlining the importance of the various developments in the evolution of the quality of care. A "Wall of Thanks" was also inaugurated to thank all those who had contributed to the renovation of the facility.
Today, the volunteers are satisfied with the work carried out and appreciate the functionality ofthe new premises:
"Before the renovation, there were isolated rooms that we didn't use. We couldn't do many workshops because the rooms were too small. [...] Today, what I love most is our kitchen in the reception area. It's as if we had our own little house, our own little studio - we have everything on site!" – Inès, volunteer
"Very nice place to live, we've never had such a nice place at Secours Catholique, with kitchen facilities, sofas where you can even take a nap!" - Liliane, schooling support referent.
"For the French workshops it's good to be next to the reception, it's very lively, the rooms and the soundproofing are very good." - Gilles, workshop referent.
Naturally, this enthusiasm is shared by our guests, who also appreciate the improved services on offer:
"There's a lot of feedback on the new premises. People tell us that it's nice, not like before. People seem to be more at ease, they spend more time on the premises.
Now we get more people coming in, asking questions about what we do. We used to be less visible, but now it attracts people. Even without an appointment, without anything, they still come in." – Inès, volunteer

In all, the 119 volunteers at the day center recorded 7,832 visits in 2024, or 835 people. The majority of these are people in very precarious situations, without distinction, including foreign nationals residing in Saint-Étienne and requiring assistance to exercise their rights.
What are the benefits for individuals?
The refurbishment of the Rue de la Paix reception area in Saint-Etienne has created a user-friendly space, easily identifiable from the street. This facilitates access to the services offered by our teams.
In addition, the work has created a space conducive to the organization of various workshops and sharing moments. In this way, they have strengthened social ties between volunteers and beneficiaries, and encouraged people to live together.
The budget for this projet is 418 000€, including the carrying out of works.
