June 27
The Circle of Light and Hope Interfaith Encounter group met on Zoom, allowing participants to join from four continents.
We discussed a topic of particular significance to the Holy Land: water. Presenters shared the spiritual, religious, and historical significance of water from the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish perspectives. We talked about how all three faiths have similar rituals that involve water, with each relating to the idea of a spiritual purification or rebirth. These include baptism in Christianity, wudu (ablution) in Islam, and mikveh (ritual bath) in Judaism.
We concluded by sharing several potential topics for the next encounter including a discussion on meat/the eating of animals or on the divine feminine.
August 2
After more than two years without seeing each other face to face, the Circle of Light and Hope finally met in person again, in a nice restaurant.
We discussed the use of water in our traditions. Taleb presented about Islam and how water is related to mercy and charity, as well as purification, also including some musing on Hindu practices in the Ganges.
Cheryl also shared about the Jewish tradition. A few questions followed from both sides and a little more discussion.
Everyone was thrilled to meet again.
