Project Report | Jun 15, 2022
May 2022 Report

By Pride Yanu Ngasa | Project Coordinator

Hope Alive Foundation Academy is a charity school project for orphans and vulnerable community children from Ekona now operating at Bonamayiba layout Tollgate Tiko due to the ongoing Anglophone crisis.

This school is an arm of the nonprofit organization Hope Alive Foundation HAF. Since 2018/2019 when the school started a home school, it has been progressing from Nursery to primary six. The current school year 2021/2022 just like previous years has recorded progressive performance from both the pupils, teaching staff, management and partners like Reach Out NGO Cameroon despite the daily challenges and effects of the ongoing Anglophone crisis. This year, the number stands at 117 pupils with a staff strength of five (5) from Nursery one to primary six. It is worth noting that, attached to the charity school project is a small unit that takes care of orphans and vulnerable community children (IDPs) who are the primary beneficiaries of the school benefiting from free scholarships since its creation. Our charity school project classroom performances and end-of-course examinations have always been good. This explains, this year the class six pupils made it again in the Government common entrance examination all in list A.

Despite, our commitments and efforts, this year has been the most challenging year. For the past three years counting, the school has been operating in a semi-permanent building with limited classroom space, limited resources to manage the growing needs of the school, especially the teacher’s monthly salaries. But thanks to Reach Out’s through the GlobalGiving platform, two of our teachers are sure of regular monthly payments. The school operates in levels: Nursery 1 & 2, Level 1= Classes 1 & 2, Level 2= Classes 3 & 4, Level 3= Classes 5 & 6.

We are trusting God for better days ahead as we look forward to having more support that will enable us to take care of more teachers and also erect a permanent classrooms space that will take care of the growing needs of the school and also the orphanage unit attached to the school.

This year, the school graduated 13 pupils from primary six who all passed the Government common entrance examination 2022 all in List A and 17 kids from Nursery two who will be promoted to primary 1 & 2 respectively. Friday 10th June 2022 was the graduation ceremony which spiced with some prizes for those kids & pupils with excellent results from Reach Out NGO and certificates for the graduation pupils of Nursery two and Primary 6.

Testimony of how the Reach Out support has been helping me as a voluntary Teacher of Hope Alive Foundation Academy charity school project at Tollgate Tiko.

My name is Linda N.A, age 28 years and an IDP from Noni, Bui Division in the North West Region of Cameroon.  I left my village because of insecurity and found myself in Bonamayibawhere I had the opportunity to teach at Hope Alive Foundation. I am a Nursery school Teacher with HAF charity school project for orphans and vulnerable community children (IDPs) and one of the beneficiaries of the REO support to teachers of the community school. Before the support, I was teaching as a volunteer helping the kids of this charity school until, 2020 when the Promoter of the school considered me amongst the teachers to benefit from the REO support which has been of great help to me and my family right up to this moment. Today, with the little support (Financial assistance) of 36.250 XAF am now able to assist my husband who lost his job as a CDC employee due to the Anglophone crisis and also take care of the house and send our two kids back to school. This Reach Out support to teachers of community schools is worth appreciating as we hope for more to cover additional teachers in our charity school project.
