Hope Alive Foundation Academy (HAFA) is a subsidiary of a community-led nonprofit organization Hope Alive Foundation from Ekona. HAFA began operating in Ekona in 2015 as a home school for orphans and young members of the local community. The nonprofit home school had 45 pupils enrolled as of the 2016–2017 academic year, ranging from kindergarten to primary 4.
The successes registered by the institution pulled the attention of the Ekona community to ask for an expansion of the home school project to a full-time community school so that additional neighboring communities (Ekona yard, Ekona 1 and 3) kids could profit from the project's free access to learning and development for orphans and vulnerable children. The 2016-2017 academic year was not really a smooth one as a result of the crisis.
As a result of the still ongoing crisis, the Hope Alive Foundation Academy (HAFA) charity school project due to security reasons was forced to relocate to Bonamayiba layout Tollgate in the Tiko subdivision of Fako Division in the South West Region of Cameroon in 2018. While in its new location, the community school faced many challenges amongst which included: lack of space to accommodate the growing number of conflict affected children (presently the population of the school has increased from 45 in 2016 to 135 in 2023, which include 45 Internally displaced children and 25 orphans), lack of human resources to man the institution, lack of didactic materials and financial constraints.
In 2018, Reach Out being a long time partner to HAFA came to the assistance of the institution. Having seen and witnessed the effects of the crisis on schools and communities, Reach Out NGO recruited 2 trained teachers to added to the already 3 teachers the community school had and placed them on a monthly salary of $72 (36000 CFA). This addition in human resoure has greatly improved the school's teaching and learning experience, as well as enriched the lives of past and present pupils, with outstanding results in public explanations for the past three academic years. Reach out Cameroon has also intervened with donations of gifts, books, and end-of-year graduation certificates for the school. Longstanding intervention from REO with donations from GlobalGiving has enabled HAFA to sustain its activities as a displaced structure from Ekona to Bonamayiba Layout Tollgate as a victim of the Anglophone crisis.
The intervention of Reach out brought other humanitarian partners like IRC to support the school with food stuff, housekeeping materials, and toiletries. Today, Hope Alive Foundation Academy is well known in the Educational cluster and is attracting assistance. HAFA boost of a temporal building and is hoping for a permanent structure to conveniently accommodate the increasing population of the community school in its new site.
Hope Alive Foundation Academy is just 1 amongst the numerous community schools in the South West Region through which your donations put smiles on the faces of vulnerable children and make them hope for better days. Thank You so much for your kind donations and we plead they keep coming.
