By Mah Diana Foniborg | Director, Mah Di's Orphanage

At Reach Out Cameroon we belive in giving voices to our beneficiaries to talk for themselves, this report is the first one written directly by Mah Diana, director of the orphanage. We hope you like it.

I am Mah Foniborg Diana, a widow at my middle age with a biological son of 27 years. I am the founder of Mah Di’s orphanage, in Kumba. My mission is to grow up children who are God fearing, hard working, productive and responsible. That is why I came up with a home like this for children in distress. Orphans, the needy, the abandoned, those who don’t know where to go.

Our motto is “service to humanity and commitment to God “. With our Aim to provide love and care to the vulnerable.

In carrying out the task I require the whole-hearted co-operation of all workers and children. Activities are as follows;

Visits in and out

Visitors are allowed to visit the orphanage as well as children are also allowed at a schedule time for church service, workshops etc

Tasks/Schedule of duties:

Children are assigned to various task such as:

  • Helping in house chores
  • A poultry which had about 50 matured chickens, 31 were sold and we bought 100 1-day-old to grow them.
  • The piggery which has about 7 pigs in it after selling 6.
  • The fishery, has 1200 fish,  harvest done in a small scale by the children.
  • The snails farm (2500 snails). Mature snails were sold in December and we hope to increase it this 2017.
  • Crop Farming: Cocoyam, cassavas, plantains, banana and other vegetables were planted. We realized some food stuff for consumption and some sales.

Education / school projects:

 A learning hall still to be completed is used as classroom for children studying at home. This has solved the problem of children trip to a far distance of about 3km for studies. They now study at home. It is also advantageous to some children in this neighborhood.  To meet up with the teaching, teachers are hired on a 10 months basis.

Leisure: The children are allowed on the play ground during leisure time

House craft: Children respect their roster of work.

We thank you so much for your donations. These would have been used for other purposes but you directed them to us because you saw the need for the growth of these children.
