Rural Leaders in Training Update -- Preparing for 2024 Arrivals

By Sherry DeLeon | Executive Director

2023 class receiving their graduation certificates

Thank you for supporting AFARI's first crowdfunding campaign for the Rural Leaders Training Program. As this year draws to a close, we have said goodbye to the class of 2023. These 26 participants, now graduates, will begin the most important phase of the ARI training, where they return home and commence their programs of rural development, bringing sustainable skills and a hopeful future to their home communitites.

With the departure of our class of 2023, ARI turns its full attention to the incoming class of 2024. Thanks to the support of donors like you through this crowdfunding campaign, the Asian Rural Institute has raised enough funds to support the travel of 2-3 participants in next year's Rural Leaders Training Program. As we continue this campaign, we hope to raise enough to support the travel of all participants joining us in 2024.

The Rural Leaders Training Program will begin in April 2024. There are currently 20 participants from 12 countries across Southeast Asia and Africa. As the application process has only just finished, we are still in the early stages of preparing for their arrival in Japan. We look forward to updating you as these rural leaders begin their preparation to make the long journey to the Asian Rural Institute in Nashiobara, Japan. It is thanks to your generosity that they will be able to begin this journey.

Warm Regards,
