At Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice, we are dedicated to empowering survivor-activists and advocating for justice worldwide.
We continue to provide vital resources that help survivor-activists and advocates navigate complex legal and advocacy landscapes. Our toolkit with flyers, frequently asked questions, case studies, calls to action, and an advocacy guide, is available in English, Spanish, Arabic, French, Georgian and Russian at www.thehagueprinciples.org. We are also pleased to announce that the Ukrainian version of The Hague Principles on Sexual Violence webpage is now live, making the toolkit's case studies and flyers accessible to Ukrainian-speaking communities.
On 11 June 2024, in partnership with the International Institute of Social Studies, Legal Mobilization Platform, the University of Sydney Centre for International Law, Strategic Litigation Project, and Global Justice Center, we convened a groundbreaking conference on reproductive violence in international criminal law. This hybrid event, held in The Hague and online, attracted over 60 in-person attendees and 230 virtual participants. Among the attendees were esteemed judges, lawyers from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other courts, scholars, survivor-activists, and practitioners in the field.
The conference addressed urgent issues like the various forms of reproductive violence and accountability mechanisms under international criminal law, while also creating a space for survivor-activists to share their experiences. These firsthand accounts added valuable insights to the field, helping to shape discussions and inform future strategies for justice and advocacy. By fostering an environment for capacity building and networking, the event enhanced collaboration and reinforced collective efforts toward advancing justice. Recordings of the panels, along with additional educational materials to support the work of practitioners and survivor-activists, are accessible through this LINK.
Your donations also help fund vital programs on the ground. In early September, we completed the first phase of a training program for legal practitioners in Ukraine focused on combating Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV). The second phase is scheduled to start in early October. In the meantime, we continue to facilitate mentoring sessions between international criminal and human rights law specialists and Ukrainian lawyers who are working on CRSV cases in Ukraine.
Your ongoing support fuels progress toward a world where survivors are empowered, justice is served, and sexual violence is no longer tolerated. Thank you for standing with us and for contributing to a more just and equitable world.
