Support Shelter for 2,000 Mentally ill in Nigeria

Summary

In Nigeria, thousands of people with mental illness live on the streets without food, care, or protection. Stigma and poverty leave them abandoned by families and ignored by society. This project will provide shelter, meals, medical care, and counseling for 2,000 mentally ill people. With safe housing and access to treatment, they can recover dignity, reduce suffering, and begin reintegration into their communities. Immediate action is needed to save lives and restore hope.

Challenge

Nigeria faces a growing mental health crisis, with over 20 million people living with mental illness. Due to poverty, lack of services, and stigma, many are left on the streets, neglected, and at risk of violence or death. Families often abandon relatives with mental illness, leaving them without shelter or treatment. Few psychiatric hospitals exist, and most are overcrowded. Without intervention, thousands remain trapped in cycles of homelessness, hunger, and untreated illness.

Solution

This project will provide safe shelter, daily meals, medical care, and counseling to 2,000 people living with mental illness. Trained staff and volunteers will offer therapy, distribute medication, and organize rehabilitation activities. The shelter will create a stable environment where recovery can begin. Partnerships with local hospitals will allow referrals for advanced treatment, while vocational training prepares residents for reintegration into their communities.

Long-Term Impact

Providing shelter and care for 2,000 people will reduce deaths, hunger, and suffering among Nigeria's mentally ill population. Residents who regain stability can return to their families, find work, and live with dignity. Communities benefit when fewer people are left homeless and untreated. By combining safe housing, medical care, and rehabilitation, the project lays a foundation for long-term recovery and creates pathways for thousands to rebuild their lives.
