Dear supporters,
To celebrate Teach For Bulgaria’s 15th anniversary, we are reflecting on the stories and people who helped shape our journey to celebrate past victories and inspire future ones. Today, we’re proud to share the story of Iglika from Cohort 2015, whose path took her all the way to the US, then led her back home to the small village of Oreshene.
While studying Geoscience at Wellesley College, Iglika first heard about Teach For Bulgaria and our mission to ensure equal access to quality education for every child in Bulgaria. Soon after graduation, she applied to become a teacher. But it wasn’t until she stepped into Vasil Levski Primary School to teach English that she grasped the true weight of the challenge and the impact she could make in this new role.
Living in one of Bulgaria’s poorest regions, her students faced many challenges - many of them had to stay home to care for their younger siblings, and some didn’t even have winter shoes. But Iglika was determined to be part of the solution.
“There are as many solutions as there are problems,” she often says.
And together with her fellow TFB teachers, she brought that belief to life - from launching a summer support camp to creating events that built bridges between schools to founding a robotics club. Their work helped students develop not just their language and math skills, but also teamwork, resilience, and confidence.
After completing the program, Iglika continued her teaching career and launched the School Miracles initiative in the Pleven and Lovech regions. She is now a vice principal in a high school in Sofia, where she continues her work.
This story is a reminder that meaningful change happens when committed teachers, inspired students, and supportive communities come together.
Thank you for your support and for being part of this mission.
Warmly,
The Teach for Bulgaria Team
