Next step for East Indonesia - Project Report (Q2 2024)

By Stuart Patience | Board Member

Dear supporters,

We're pleased to share another update on the progress of our work in East Indonesia with you. Over the past few months, we've made significant steps forward that we'd love to tell you more about.

One of the key aspects of our intervention is mentoring. By visiting schools multiple times throughout the year, observing classroom realities and management, we can support teachers in effectively implementing the curriculum. We do this so that the knowledge from the training and curriculum can truly be implemented in their context.

In recent months, we had many of these mentoring visits. Sometimes, our team has to travel long distances as the schools are located in remote areas. However, we have seen the results and how even small interventions can have a big impact in the classroom.
For example in the story of Junior, a boy who, during our baseline testing (our initial assessment to determine their starting point), scored a zero. This indicated that at that time, Junior didn't recognize any letters and therefore couldn't read. Now, several months later, he proudly reads his books aloud independently. What a transformation! And this is just one example...

We are looking forward to the completion of the school year in the coming months and seeing the final results of these schools in East Indonesia. We hope to provide you with an update on this in our next report. If you'd like to support our work in the meantime, you're more than welcome to do so. This way, we can spread the love of reading to even more children.

Salam Literasi,

Stuart Patience
