We continue to work diligently towards our goal of placing 125 children in school, but we have an important update to share. The number has increased to 127.
Allow me to share a touching story about how this change occurred. On a rainy day, as I was leaving work slightly earlier than usual, I noticed a young girl walking down the streets of Chorkor, a fishing community in Ghana. She was drenched from the rain, and tears streamed down her face. Without hesitation, I approached her to find out what was wrong. As I touched her, I realized she had a high fever and had been sick for days. She explained that her mother couldn't afford to take her to the hospital.
In a moment of determination, I called my staff to help locate her mother and swiftly arranged for her to receive medical attention. She was diagnosed with Typhoid and Malaria, and the treatment cost around $50, a small price compared to saving a life. Five days later, she was feeling much better, and we discovered that she was a 12-year-old girl who had never been to school. Unlike her older brother, who was sponsored by their grandmother to attend school, she was chosen to stay home.
Sadly, she is not the only girl or child facing such circumstances. We had previously encountered another 13-year-old girl who had the opportunity to attend school but dropped out after just one year. Today is enrolled in school full time.
Your support is truly worth it, as we are making a significant difference in the lives of these children. With the new academic year approaching in October 2023, we are confident that we will raise the necessary funds to sponsor each and every child. Sponsorship goes beyond just covering school fees; it also includes healthcare and after-school care, all essential for their development.
Together, let's continue this journey of positive change.
