Impact of BASICS International and the Power of the Back to School Program

By Pat Wilkins | Executive Director

Impact of BASICS International and the Power of the Back to School Program

At BASICS International, we have been committed to transforming lives through education for over two decades. Our Back to School program is a cornerstone of this mission, ensuring that children in underserved communities can overcome the barriers that have kept them out of the classroom and away from opportunities.

The new academic year is just 20 days away, and we are proud to announce that we have secured funds to support 60 children. These funds will enable children who have faced harsh conditions, preventing them from going to school, to return to their studies with renewed hope.

Take Thomas, for example. At just 5 years old, Thomas was forced to leave school after his leg was amputated following a car accident. His dreams of education were cut short, but not his spirit. Thanks to the support from our Back to School program, Thomas will be returning to school in just three weeks—not only with a renewed desire to learn but also with a new prosthetic leg that will enable him to walk confidently into the future. Thomas' story is a testament to the life-changing impact of our program.

The Back to School program goes beyond just providing financial support. It offers a comprehensive approach to education by supplying school materials, uniforms, transportation, and medical care. This holistic support ensures that children can focus on their education without the burden of unmet needs, giving them the tools to succeed academically and personally.

The impact of this program is felt not only by the children but by their families and communities as well. When a child like Thomas returns to school, it inspires hope and progress within the entire community. Education is a powerful catalyst for change, opening doors to opportunities that can lift families out of poverty and contribute to the broader development of the community.

We encourage you to share Thomas' story with your friends and family. By spreading the word and supporting our efforts, you become part of a powerful movement that transforms lives. Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams. Together, we can make that a reality. Let's continue to change lives, one child at a time.
