Inclusive education for children with disabilities

Introduction

Friends Peace House (FPH) developed the Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities project to promote equal access to education and opportunities for children living with disabilities in Rwanda.
The project seeks to support vulnerable children with disabilities who may face financial, social, and educational barriers that prevent them from accessing or fully participating in education. Through this initiative, FPH aims to contribute to a more inclusive environment where every child can learn, develop their abilities, and participate meaningfully in society.

Project Status During This Reporting Period

Despite the readiness and commitment of Friends Peace House to implement the project, no project activities were carried out during this reporting period due to insufficient funding.

FPH had planned to begin supporting children with disabilities and promoting inclusive education, but the available resources were not sufficient to implement the planned activities.
Although nothing was implemented during this reporting period, the organization remains committed to the project and continues to believe in its importance.

Why This Project Matters

Children with disabilities have the same right to education, dignity, and opportunities as other children. However, many vulnerable children face barriers such as poverty, lack of appropriate learning materials, limited support services, and social exclusion.
Inclusive education can help children with disabilities develop their abilities, build confidence, interact with their peers, and prepare for meaningful participation in their communities.
Supporting inclusive education is therefore not only an investment in individual children but also an investment in a more equitable and inclusive society.

Planned Activities

Once sufficient funding is secured, Friends Peace House plans to:

• Provide appropriate educational materials and other necessary support.
• Engage parents, teachers, and community members in promoting inclusive education.
• Raise awareness about the rights and potential of children with disabilities.
• Monitor the educational and social progress of supported children.

Challenges

The major challenge during this reporting period was insufficient funding, which prevented FPH from implementing the planned activities.
The organization recognizes that the need remains significant and that many vulnerable children with disabilities continue to require educational support
