Tree planting to mark birth of baby Myra

The last 6 months have flown by since our 8th World of Work group joined the WOW programme. After 6 months of attending daily at Edwina Gateley House they are now ready to start on phase 2. During phase 1 the young perople learnt about and experienced the skills of the work place - timekeeping, attendance, following instruction etc. They carried out activities such as maintaining the garden, basic horticulture, cooking, cleaning as well as sessions in entrepreneurship, computers, personal development, health, lifeskills, reading and counselling.

During the training phase the young people will get a further 6 months practical work experience and training. Some of the young people wish to train as motor vehicle and motor bike mechanics. Others are interested in catering and others in small business. As they go through this process we will continue to support and visit with them, at the work place and at home.

Two of our WOW / Proud Mom's members had babies in January and February so they will continue with the programme until their children are older. Two trees were planted in the compound to mark the birth of baby Myra and baby Jayden.

Thanks again to all those who have made it possible for these young people to have the WOW experience.
