Project Report | Feb 10, 2026
WOW 9 Group complete phase 1

By Tim Flynn | AMV, Coordinator

At the time of writing our WOW 9 group are moving from phase 1 to phase 2. After about 6 months attending daily at Edwina Gateley House most are now moving on to the next 6 months of apprenticeship. With this transition we are now beginning to welcome members to our 10th WOW group.

The past phase saw some new activities within the programme. Towards the end of 2025 we had the opportunity for a musician to teach our young people how to play the keyboard. We look forward to some tunes being played at our WOW 9 graduation at the end of February. We also welcomed members of the Badminton Club at Kitale Technical to visit from time to time to play badminton with our young people, some who have shown talent at the game. We also acquired bicycles from the Irish Jesuits International and these are used for weekly cycles and also for staff and apprentices to get to their place of work.

Our young people enjoyed our end of year Christmas party and each received a food hamper. Many chose this time to visit and reconnect at their family homes.

On 2nd February we were also very happy to host visitors from the Irish Embassy in Kenya and two former Irish Olympic athletes, Derval O'Rourke and Karen Shinkens. A forum was held on the topic of Youth, Sports & Development. As well as the Irish Athletes we were fortunate to welcome Boniface Teren who has trained the Kenyan Olympic Steeplechase athletes for many years.

As we begin 2026 we would like to thank all those who have supported us during 2025. We hope that people will continue to support as this year progresses.
