In the northern hemisphere, the trees are slowly changing colour and Blue Cross summer activities in Poland and Romania have come to an end. The two project teams have overall organized three cycles of summer camps in the Silesian province in Southern Poland and enriched the SIPRI summer school for Ukrainian refugee children and teenagers in Transylvania, Romania with 12 Life Skills sessions and an interactive day trip to a nearby forest. Right now, both project teams are busy preparing for the start of Life Skills sessions at local schools in Bielsko-Biaa and Sibiu. At this point, we would like to express our sincere thanks to our donor GlobalGiving and all individual donors who also support this work! Your support has made these two projects possible and helped launch Life Skills education and substance abuse prevention among young refugees from Ukraine and their local peers in Poland and Romania.
From “Inside Out” to Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions: Some insights into the Life Skills summer sessions in Romania
Blue Cross summer activities for Ukrainian refugee youth are also up and running in Sibiu! So far, the Blue Cross Romania project team have facilitated four Life Skills sessions for children and teenagers attending a summer school. With the sessions focusing on substance use prevention, fostering mutual understanding and teamwork, self-awareness and self-expression as well as emotional intelligence. It’s fair to say that our facilitators have gone all out with their creativity and are using a wealth of different resources and methods to support the children on their journey to acquiring, deepening and practicing several of the 10 core Life Skills defined by the WHO.
We look forward to providing further updates!
