Hello Everybody.
This update has been written by Sanju from Paini Village Sewing centre. We have changed the name in accordance with trust privacy policy but nothing else. It has been approved for sending by the individual concerned and the women’s group as a whole, it was based on an interview conducted in Hindi
My name is Sanju Devi and I am 30 years old from Paini Village in Jharkhand and I have three children. My husband works as an agricultural labourer labour and he works in the field and earns only 300 to 400 rupees a day $5/$6 , or £6.50 , ( about 65p/ 84cents an hour) .It was very difficult to survive life with my children with this little income so I came to People First Sewing Training Centre to learn the sewing skills and for support and companionship I then joined the Self Help Group which was organized by People First Team in my village and I have received a loan to buy the sewing machine, with very little interest and started to make the clothes in my own village. Because of Income from the clothes which I sold at the local market I have now paid back the loan in full.
Before it was difficult for village women because they don’t believe that I can make their clothes but because of assistance and skill provided by the People First teacher I have started to make clothes and now I can earn minimum 1500 to 2000 ( $25 to $30/£32 to $37) rupees a month regular income which belongs to me .
What would boost my income is a overlock machine to give a professional look and quality, and I have been given permission to directly appeal for help towards the cost , about 4000 rupees ( about $60/$45 )
Thanks to you all because of this support I really capable to increase my income and living happy with my children and husband.
Sanju
