Nanaste Everyone!
My name is Prithya (we have changed the name under privacy and protection guidelines) this is me in the picture at our sewing centre. I would like to thank you for helping us in our village with our sewing centre. We need to buy some more machines as we are short of them and five women have to share one at the moment. Each foot operated machine costs 9000 rupees or $150.
I am I think about 17 but the centre is open to women and girls of all ages, of course that is the main thing, it is for women only. Here in the village the men have their freedoms and women less so but we do have our own special place, our sewing centre and I cannot tell you what a difference it has made to all of the women in our village through companionship support and of course also learning a skill.
Our village is also very poor, we come from families that are just very small farmers, education especially for girls is difficult due to many things but People First is doing what it can to change things for the better.
Did you know over 50% of all People First staff are women?, and in director of project posts too. I can only write this letter because of People First and the education I got from their school. And sometimes we have a women’s fair, and that is rare great day out and we sing songs and have good food and celebrate our womanhood together.
Thanks so much!
Prithya
