By Madhu | Women's Community Worker People First
Hello Everybody
This is Madhu and I am a community worker for People First.
I want to thank you for all your support for the project.
As you already know these centres provide a haven for women where they can support each other and learn a skill. I thought this report I would ask a woman who had completed her training and now has her own sewing machine what effect it has had on her life.
This is from “Puja” (for privacy reasons we have changed the name per global giving guidelines) These are her own words translated word for word from Hindi
“My name is Puja, my village is very poor and a long way from the town. I have never had my own money in my life before. But since I got my training and machine I can earn my own money. It might not be a big amount but it is mine, and although I spend it mostly on my children this my choice with my money. It’s not the amount, but now I am free and not so dependent on my husband’s small earnings as a daily wage earner ,and the fact that I now have a life of my own”.
Thank you
Madhu
