Over 50% of Uganda's elderly live in poverty; only 2-4% receive pensions. In rural areas of Tororo, widows and the elderly people face land grabbing, struggle with hunger, illness, and neglect. Many live alone or care for orphaned grandchildren. Climate change worsens harvests. Without help, these vulnerable groups remain trapped in isolation, poverty, and malnutrition with little chance of survival.
Support Widows Project provides food, housing and medical relief, agricultural inputs and hands-on training for livelihoods improvement, health and income. Community support groups reduce loneliness and offer peer learning. Local leaders help monitor progress. With these practical tools, widows and elderly people gain sustainable livelihoods, improved nutrition, and hope, turning vulnerability into dignity and self-reliance.
With sustainable income from farming and businesses, widows and elderly will move from dependence to dignity. Regular meals and health care, decent housing, small earnings, and support groups reduce poverty and isolation. Over time, beneficiaries will maintain livelihoods, help others, and live with self-respect. This project restores hope, strengthens communities, and ensures no elderly person or widow is forgotten.
