Overall goal!

SHARE NGO was established to support the ongoing efforts in fightingi climate change affect in the country as well as support challenges in education, health and environment especially with disaster's in Mt Elgon region.

Background!

ClimateChange

Climate change is a global emergency that goes beyond national borders. It is an issue that requires coordinated solutions at all levels.

What is the main cause of climate change in Uganda?

Uganda's greenhouse gas emissions are dominated by the agriculture sector, with enteric fermentation and inefficient animal waste management systems as the leading contributors

How is Uganda being affected by climate change?

Uganda has in past decades experienced more erratic rainfalls leading to frequent busting of rivers, mudslides and landslides that lead to loss of lives and property of communities especially those living in the mountainous areas.

In 2012, forest fires occurred in the Rwenzori region, causing the ice fields to melt, leading to the flooding of the river around the mountain. In January 2022, intense rain around Mount Muhavura damaged buildings and roads in Kisoro District, especially affecting Nyarusiza, Muramba and Bunagana.

What are the effects of the floods in Mt Elgon Region, Mbale?

But it's estimated that 5,600 have been displaced from Mbale City alone and 400,000 people have already been cut off from the national water grid. Latrines and sewage systems have been damaged, polluting the environment. Furthermore, food shortages could result from 5000 acres of crops being destroyed.

Solutions!

Invest in Climate change transition - Measure Expected Emissions
Meet TCFD disclose requirements for reporting transition risks. Sustainalytics launches its Low Carbon Transition Ratings.

What Are the Solutions to Climate Change?

Ending Our Reliance on Fossil Fuels.
Greater Energy Efficiency.
Renewable Energy.
Sustainable Transportation.
Sustainable Buildings.
Better Forestry Management and Sustainable Agriculture.
Conservation-Based Solutions.
Industrial Solutions

What are the negative effects of climate change?

Sea levels are rising and oceans are becoming warmer. Longer, more intense droughts threaten crops, wildlife and freshwater supplies. From polar bears in the Arctic to marine turtles off the coast of Africa, our planet's diversity of life is at risk from the changing climate

How does climate change affect the economy of Africa?

Agriculture is critical to Africa's economic growth. Climate change could destabilize local markets, increase food insecurity, limit economic growth, and increase risk for agriculture sector investors

Climate change in Ugandas economy!

If no adaptation measures are taken, annual impact costs of climate change are estimated to come up to about US$ 3.2 – 5.9 billion. In 2008 and 2010-11 droughts led to a 3% and 11% depreciation in the value of cash crops respectively

How is climate change affecting the people of Uganda?

Climate change is increasing the occurrences of water-borne diseases such as dysentery, cholera, hepatitis E, vector-borne diseases, respiratory diseases, malnutrition-related illnesses, and especially malaria.

How climate change affects the economy?

Recent research, focusing specifically on the effects of climate change on average temperatures, points in this direction. Temperature has been found to affect income via agricultural yields, the physical and cognitive performance of workers, demand for energy, as well as the incidence of crime, unrest, and conflict.

What are the social impacts of climate change in Uganda?

Uganda is one of the world's youngest countries, and is situated in the continent most vulnerable to climate disruptions. Worsening droughts and flooding are exacerbating pre-existing socioeconomic challenges such as youth underemployment, food insecurity, and inadequate social protection.

What is Uganda doing to stop climate change?

Government taking charge

It made key commitments in this regard, including, reducing national greenhouse gas emissions by 22% by 2030, reducing climate vulnerability of climate sensitive sectors since the economy is natural resource based, and building climate resilience of key sectors and managing disaster risks.

How does climate change affect youth in Uganda?

As we speak, whole communities have been rendered homeless, some children are forced to migrate, they are no longer able to attend school because of climate effects, food insecurity and drought continue to affect children and families in some parts of Uganda, lives continue to be lost and the list continues

Climate Reports | United Nations

The tell-tale physical signs of climate change, such as increasing land and ocean heat, accelerating sea level rise and melting ice, contributed to making 2019.

The IPCC prepares comprehensive Assessment Reports about the state of scientific, technical and socio-economic knowledge on climate change,

Need for Action!, Donations to fight climate change!

Climate benefits

Global action to reduce short-lived climate pollutants can prevent 0.6°C of warming by 2050. Cutting emissions of carbon dioxide and short-lived climate pollutants is critical to slow the rate of global warming and achieve the 2°C target set by the Paris Agreement.

Why do we need action on climate change?

It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow. People are experiencing the significant impacts of climate change, which include changing weather patterns, rising sea level, and more extreme weather events.

What do we need to take action on climate change?

The 9 things you can do about climate change

Make your voice heard by those in power.
Eat less meat and dairy.
Cut back on flying.
Leave the car at home.
Reduce your energy use, and bills.
Respect and protect green spaces.
Bank and invest your money responsibly.
Cut consumption and waste.

What is the need for climate change awareness?

Knowledge regarding this phenomenon helps young people to understand and tackle the consequences of global warming, encourages them to change their behaviour and helps them to adapt to what is already a global emergency.

What do we need for climate change?

We need to cut man-made greenhouse gas emissions drastically, phase out fossil fuels and move to renewable energy. We need to be more efficient and use less energy, and we need to tackle deforestation and eat less meat.

Why do we need to protect our environment?

Our environment is what houses and helps our ecosystem grow and thrive. Without protecting and taking care of our environment we're putting so many lives at danger such as animals, plants and crops, and even our own. All of the ecosystems that make up our environment are deeply connected.
