The AKI-HaH Emergency Fund & Lifetime Care: Update
![Pharrel, no longer a homeless cat w/a broken leg!]()
Pharrel, no longer a homeless cat w/a broken leg!
Thank you to our Animal-Kind International and Have a Heart-Nambia supporters: because of you, from January through ~June 25, the Emergency Fund has been able to help 27 dogs and 12 cats; HaH's Lifetime Care Program has given boosters, dipped and given other parasite preventative to 491 dogs and 1 (sorry cat lovers!) cat.
From June 25 onward, the Emergency Fund has helped another 11 cats and dogs!
Here are some of their stories--from Geesche (HaH-Namibia). (For more Emergency Fund cases, you can always visit our website and check the AKI Blog, where we also post about AKI support to HaH-Namibia for the Emergency Fund and Lifetime Care Program--links below.)

Beautiful Cleo had been spayed by HaH and one day her owner noticed that her leg was swollen. He took her to Aanwo vet clinic in Rehoboth for a check up. Dr Hileni gave her some pain and anti-inflammatory medication, hoping this was an easy to fix injury and not a broken bone (they don't have an xray machine in Rehoboth). Cleo went home and was to report back the next day. 24 hours later her owner came to clinic and reported Cleo is back to her normal self, the leg looks much better. We are so happy that Cleo's owner knew about the AKI-HaH Emergency Fund and took the effort to ask for help for this sweet dog. He would not be able to have gotten care for Cleo without it. Thank you AKI for supporting Cleo's caring and loving owner to take the best care possible of her!!

Houdini is an old Emergency Fund customer, but she somehow didn't get her energy back. She had to go to the vet again as Willem, her caretaker, was very worried about her. After three rounds of antibiotics and other medication she was still not doing well. The vet said Houdini will need some "expensive" blood tests and we agreed there was no other way. The tests were done and sent to the lab. Based on the tests, the vet finally was able to give Houdini the correct medication and Houdini started to feel better. The cost of the test is US $ 25 - N$ 500. This is the amount (or even less) some people have to survive on for a week, so it is expensive from the perspective of the owners.

Pharral was part of a feral cat group in Windhoek. This is a lucky group, they have a kind and caring lady who is looking after the group. One day when she was feeding the group, Pharral showed up limping badly. In a panic she contacted me and asked if he can please go to the vet and if AKI can help? Pharral really wasn't feral, and he was easily taken for X-rays that showed he had a broken leg and shoulder. Poor dude. He was operated on by a vet who is specialised in fixing broken bones and luckily everything went much better than expected. After a few days of cage rest, Pharrell was ready to go home. To his new home! His caretaker could not bear the thought of bringing him back outside to a dangerous life so she took him home to see if he would get along with her two other cats. And luckily all three warmed up with each other! Thank you AKI for supporting Pharrell when he really needed support. Without AKI the only other option for Pharrell would have been to be put down as a nameless and homeless badly injured homeless cat.

Little Spotti is one lucky guy! He was dropped off at Dr Erna's clinic to be put down as unwanted and sick with parvo. But not with Dr Erna! She wanted to give Spotti a fighting chance as it was caught early. Spotti, already being a teenager, had a very good chance to recover. Dr Erna asked if the AKI Emergency Fund could help-of course! When Spotti felt better, Dr Erna remembered that a good owner had recently lost his dog, so she contacted him and asked him if he wanted to adopt Spotti. He did! Spotti went to his new home, 100 % back to health, neutered and vaccinated. Thank you, AKI, for being on Spotti's side when he needed it most!

Cola Cat didn't feel well and her owner took her to Aanwo Vet Clinic in Rehoboth. Dr Hileni knew Cola Cat's owner had no money for vet care, so she got in touch and of course we gave the ok to help this caring owner and her cat. Dr Hilleni checked out Cola Cat and prescribed some medication. Cola Cat got some rest at the clinic and is now back to her old self!

Majacks is an old HaH customer and even though he had been neutered, Majacks got into a fight and he lost, so off he went to Aanwo Vet Clinic in Rehoboth where he got cleaned up and his eye got checked. Luckily he didn't have to wait long for help because the AKI Emergency Fund was there for him! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Majacks injuries look worse than they are but without AKI he might have got infections with terrible consequences.

Geesche, Have a Heart, Animal-Kind International, and I are so grateful that we don't have to say no, when caring owners, who have no place else to go, ask for help for their [spayed & neutered] cats and dogs. Thank you!
