A big year ahead!

By Vanessa Rees | Program Manager

Dear Supporters,

In the first quarter of 2019, we continued to improve our skills in teaching the students with new learning approaches and teaching methods. We worked with all of our regular partners, the Community Development Center (CDC), the BNK Thai school, Bantham Namchai kindergarten and The Camilian Social Center, progressing towards SDGs 3 and 4 through educating students in English and good hygiene practices.

The community program here in Phang Nga has a big year ahead of it. With Ban Nam Khem, the base of operation for GVI Phang Nga, ever-changing and developing the program must evolve alongside it. These upcoming adaptations and improvements were the motivation behind our first investment of the trust money, lovingly donated to us by our supporters from all over the world. To record our progress through the coming year and display the future prospects available to us thanks to donations from the Trust we decided to buy a tripod and microphone.

Not only does this permit us to share the growth of the projects, but it also opens several exciting new opportunities for the students that attend our partner locations. One example being the notion of vocational computer skills lessons going all the way from filming and editing to publishing their work. As well as the potential new courses we can now offer, recording students also bolsters their English education. One objective of the teaching program is to widen our student’s life chances by getting them into jobs working in the nearby tourist industry, now beginning to creep into the local community.

Now to look at the impact future donations will be working towards! We have a very exciting new idea to rent a property within the village wherein we can host drop-in sessions for locals, assisting them in a myriad of ways including health checks, English classes, employment support and safe space after school clubs to name but a few!

From GVI Phang Nga and its partners we would like to say a huge thank you for all the donations made by the individuals wanting to further our program from overseas. We greatly appreciate all your support, as we enter this new era of development in Phang Nga we are especially grateful for this aid. Despite this, we ask you all to keep up the incredible work you do donating and fundraising for our cause as it allows us to do more and more for our partners and community!

All the best,

GVI Phang Nga
