The Second Annual Fun Run For Camillian

Dear Supporters,

In December of 2016, the healthcare program here in Phang Nga embarked on a new and exciting project at the Camillian Social Center – we began holding daily physiotherapy sessions for the pupils who attend the centre. Completing these physiotherapy routines has allowed the physical capabilities of the pupils to develop before the eyes of our volunteers, however, we wanted to broaden the routines and push the student’s development.

That is why we decided to have the students show off their physical advancements by organising a fun run to raise money for the centre to advance further!

The challenge was simple - all Camillian pupils, GVI staff and volunteers, and the families of the Camillian pupils were to complete a 1.3-kilometer lap around the “Lamson” area of Ban Nam Khem.

On the day of the fun run, GVI volunteers decorated the Ban Nam Khem Tsunami Memorial Park to welcome our eager pupils and their siblings. We set off on the run around 9 am, making quick progress as we made our way around Ban Nam Khem. After finishing in just over an hour, everyone returned to the Tsunami Memorial for some lunch, pictures, and a water-balloon fight!

In total, we managed to raise over $450 for the Camillian Social Center, and we will continue to look at fundraising for this worthy cause. The money we raised is for general use at the Camillian Center, so it will go towards getting new physiotherapy/physical therapy/occupational therapy equipment for the centre, bringing in new and exciting materials for crafts and sensory related activities, and helping Camillian start a vegetable garden and chicken coop.

This longstanding partnership is one that captures the hearts of volunteers and staff alike and we look forward to helping the Camillian Centre in any way we can in the future.

Thank you for your support!

With Gratitude,
GVI Thailand
