In a heartwarming initiative, a group of optometrists visited the Joy Workshop to conduct eye examinations for our children. With care and professionalism, they engaged with the individuals, using their expertise to assist them in the eye-testing process.
Last year, responding to the call from the Optometrist Association Chairman, 17 optometry practices joined hands to provide eye exams and prescription glasses for the children at Joy Workshop. This year, the dedicated optometrists, still concerned about our children, expressed their eagerness to conduct off-site eye exams and offer educational insights.
Reviewing the results, teachers were surprised to discover that over ten of the children experienced changes in their vision, including increased nearsightedness, farsightedness, and presbyopia, necessitating new prescriptions. Without this eye examination initiative, these issues might have gone undetected. Due to the rarity of such opportunities for our children and their unfamiliarity with the environment and people, one participant, Pepe (pseudonym), felt somewhat fearful, with a stiff body and difficulty focusing. Fortunately, the experienced optometrists promptly reassured Pepe. With patience and ingenuity, the team collaborated to help Pepe successfully complete the eye exam, allowing the children to continue exploring this world filled with love and hope through clear and bright eyes.
